Parisian chic by Caroline de Maigret. Caroline de Maigret told how to be beautiful in Parisian style

One of the main muses of Lancôme and Karl Lagerfeld, Caroline de Maigret, reveals the secrets of her feminine appeal. A true Frenchwoman, a talented and successful woman, without whom not a single fashion event and street-style photo report can be done.

1

Skin care

As a true Parisian, Caroline is sure that naturalness and beauty are synonymous! Therefore, it recommends not to overuse foundation, not to use products with a dense texture, and not to try to hide skin features: freckles, fine wrinkles, moles. Here are Madame de Maigret's skin care tips:

  • Be sure to use a moisturizer to nourish and smooth your skin. “This is the most valuable thing in a makeup bag - makeup artists swear by it (like the Bible),” the girl jokes.
  • Hide minor skin defects (pimples, redness) with concealer or BB cream applied locally.
  • If you use foundations that can dry out your skin, be sure to mix them with moisturizer.
  • Don't forget to remove makeup before going to bed.

2

Minimum make-up

Karl Lagerfeld's favorite is sure that a girl should not wear too much makeup, use too much color and accessories in her look.

Caroline encourages women not to spend too much time on creating makeup and image, but to pay attention to the little things, because sometimes they play a decisive role.

A few more rules of Caroline de Maigret:

  • Use black mascara in large quantities. This will help make your look more expressive and distract attention from dark circles under the eyes.
  • In any unclear situation, when you want a holiday, make a choice in favor of red lipstick!
  • For everyday makeup, use lip gloss in neutral shades - it looks fresh and makes you look younger.

3

Well-groomed hands and feet

Carolyn pays special attention to manicures and pedicures. The girl believes that nails should be short, clean and painted (a clear coat is acceptable). By the way, the so-called “French manicure,” in her opinion, has nothing to do with France at all and looks terrible.

To keep his nails from breaking and healthy, de Maigret rubs them with lemon juice.

For the beauty of the skin of the hands and feet, Caroline makes special baths based on almond oil. And she polishes her feet with pumice stones at least once a week.

4

Body in good shape

A contrast shower in the morning, an aromatic massage after a hard day - all this is an investment in your good mood, well-being and harmony. This is exactly what the girl thinks, so she tries not to skimp on herself and her desires. Carolyn also suggests living here and now, and using your natural gifts to the maximum, so as not to regret later about your “gone youth” and opportunities.

5

Hairstyle

An exemplary Parisian, a friend of Karl Lagerfeld and an ambassador of the House of Chanel - I want to emulate Caroline de Maigret. Caroline De Maigret

Best Dressed Women: Caroline De Maigret, model, composer and arranger, and the face of Chanel. Of all the women featured in this column, Carolyn's style is probably the most avant-garde. For this post, I tried to choose the least avant-garde examples that are suitable for real life. And I chose Caroline De Maigret because her style is where fashion is going. She indicates the direction, so you shouldn’t be indignant that “it’s impossible to walk like that.” This is not an example of how to dress for work, but an example of a general concept and modern, for most people even tomorrow, aesthetics.

I quote a comment from an article about: “Are you suggesting that we replace satin dresses that fit our figure with shapeless sweaters?!” I don't suggest it. The intended replacement is a little more complicated. However, it is easy to see that rubber satin dresses have little place left in our reality. I even find it difficult to imagine where the average woman could wear these dresses. No, not to the theater. They don't dress like that in the theater. And not for a wedding. There are much more correct and modern options for a wedding. And certainly not for a “corporate party” (as I understand from the comments, for many this is almost the main reason to dress up). It seemed to me that the work and the pseudo-silk bandages did not go together.

Caroline's style rules

You don't have to swap Karen Millen-style dresses for a wrinkled T-shirt. There are other options. For example, the two dresses in these photos. Parisian Chic - the style of Caroline De Maigret - does not imply anything particularly sexy and erotic, or fancy and requiring effort.

This is a laissez-faire attitude to style and appearance. Laissez-faire means something going on as usual, without interference. And that's where fashion is going. The further you go, the more the “I woke up like this” look will be appreciated. Of course, it takes a lot of effort to wake up like this. The figure, skin, hair, teeth must be ideal, and only natural and very high-quality materials must be used in clothing. And so, when you wake up with your good skin, beautiful hair and white teeth, putting on the latest jeans, cashmere sweater or silk shirt, and good shoes, you are what this laissez-faire attitude requires.

You can be indignant that this is “not feminine,” “men don’t like it that way,” “we don’t do that,” but this is the future of all fashion. At all times, the message “to me” is in fashion This available", only This changes depending on the circumstances. Now humanity is rapidly becoming richer, health and leisure are becoming accessible. If at different times this there were silks, fur coats, stockings without seams, and the like that were inaccessible to most, but now it is health and a lifestyle that allows you to be beautiful without putting in a lot of effort.

And she spoke to ELLE about feminism, career and ideal relationships.

ELLE How did you decide to return to the catwalk after a long break?

CAROLINE DE MAIGRET I gave up my modeling career to become a real woman, do my own thing, create something. When you're a model, you can't control your own destiny, and that's why I had to leave the business. I created my own music label, started making music as a producer - and after 8-10 years I was nominated for the French Cesar Award for the best film soundtrack. People started calling me again, inviting me to work, and in the end I agreed to drive a “radio truck” for a magazine. The car parked near the places where the shows were held, and the guests of the show came to me for interviews. Before that, I hadn’t seen Karl Lagerfeld for about 8 years - and now I had to talk to him for about 15 minutes. We were so interested that he stayed for as much as 45! We talked about music, his mom, dad. A week later he asked me if I would agree to participate in the Chanel show. I reminded him that I was already 37, but agreed - and again found myself on the podium.

ELLE Are you enjoying this work more now than before?

K.D.M. Certainly! It was stressful for me to only be a model because you don't use your brain that way. It was as if I was even ashamed of this profession. Now everything is fine with me: I am a mother, I have my own production center, work. Now being part of the fashion industry is pure luxury for me: meeting photographers, designers, being inspired, having fun... Because I am fully accomplished as a woman.

I don’t want to attract men with makeup and hairstyle. I want a guy who values other qualities

ELLE What can you say about Lagerfeld?

K.D.M. Carl is one of the wisest people I know. He always looks forward, he is not at all interested in the past, only the future and the present. He is very loyal, devoted to people over the years - just look at his surroundings! And he cares about all of us. He is kind, very smart, and really fun to be around! He taught me to look at things very deeply. For example, if I want to get acquainted with the work of an artist, the first thing I do is find out more about his personality, buy a book about him, find a movie related to him. It is much more interesting to be a specialist in a specific field than to know about everything, but superficially.

ELLE Especially now, when everyone expresses an opinion on any subject, but doesn’t really know anything.

K.D.M. Yes, the Internet makes it possible to have a so-called dinner conversation, but this is not enough. True, it was during my visit to Moscow that I noticed one thing - the people were completely different. Maybe I was just lucky, but in Russia they seemed much deeper to me, and their culture was much greater than that of those who work in the fashion industry, say, in the USA or France.

ELLE Indeed, in Russia we read a lot, we literally can’t tear ourselves away from books!

K.D.M. Oh yeah! Books are opportunities, a path to education. And the meaning of life is precisely to constantly learn.

ELLE What did you like most about Moscow?

K.D.M. I didn't really know what to expect. I imagined cold people, but everyone I met turned out to be cool, cheerful, it was like we were one big family. Honestly, it amazed me. The Kremlin, Red Square - I know them from pictures since childhood, and it was important for me to see them live. I arrived at the square at sunset, when it was filled with yellow light, I walked alone - and it was a truly magical moment!

ELLE During your visit, you spent a lot of time with Miroslava Duma, right?

K.D.M. She organized my visit, the presentation of the book (the book “How to Feel Like a Parisian” was published by the Eksmo publishing house in the fall of 2014 - ELLE note) and really wanted to show me the country. My time was scheduled minute by minute, every free half hour I went either to the Kremlin or to the Bolshoi Theater. Mira is hyperactive, and in two days we managed almost everything. You are lucky to have such an “ambassador” of your country! We have a lot in common - she helps us learn more about our native culture, teaches and learns herself.

ELLE There are two polar trends in fashion now. One is a triumph of naturalness and individuality. The other is a real life photoshop. What do you think of it?

K.D.M. When I was asked to return to the industry, I thought for a long time why. Then I realized that during the economic crisis, people are tired of lies, they need sincerity. I was busy with my own business, music, and Karl needed a woman nearby who could inspire others, even without being perfect. Life is much more than just beauty. All the women Chanel works with are not perfect. Chanel's mission is to show beauty as a whole. And therefore, if you have your own life, you read books, work on your own image, trying to be the best, you are beautiful. A terrible person may be nice at 20 - but at 30? What will happen to him? That's why I'm so happy to collaborate with Chanel, where a woman is valued for her intelligence.

At the same time, if we talk about natural beauty... I just feel sorry for spending a lot of time on makeup - I'd rather do something more useful than spend an hour on styling. And one more thing: I like my natural self better, it suits me much better. Besides, I don’t want to attract a man who needs a girl wearing makeup when styling her hair. I need a guy who will appreciate other qualities in me. I feel a responsibility to women and am very proud that, despite the dominance of photoshopped beauties, I continue to be photographed: I give women an alternative. They look at me and think: “Wow! It turns out that you can be desirable at 40, and photographers and magazines think it’s cool, fashionable and modern.” I am fortunate to serve as an example for them. I have curves, I am not a skinny supermodel, but a woman who is being photographed.

My man was raised by a woman who taught him to respect women as himself

ELLE A strange stereotype reigns in the RuNet: if the beauty of a model is close to ideal, everyone is happy, but when they see a photo shoot of a real woman: actress, model, designer, users burst out with angry comments: “Why is she in the magazine? She’s not beautiful!” By your example, you show women that each of them can be in your place, and they, in turn, hate you for it.

K.D.M. I understand what you are talking about, but it seems to me that you are talking about ordinary haters on Instagram, of which there are plenty all over the world. If I receive unpleasant comments on my page, I usually respond to them, and the person immediately “turns on the back”: “Oh, you misunderstood me!” Take everyone separately - everyone is fine, but if there is a crowd, the game starts. During my visit to Russia I was pleasantly surprised. I thought I would see all this passion for logos and gold, but the people around, on the contrary, were dressed beautifully, calmly. It seems to me that you needed to go through a period of “richness” that you finally gained access to. And now you are calmly demonstrating that you are well-read, intelligence is in your blood: to think, to ponder, to indulge in your inherent melancholy.

ELLE Feminism in France - your strength and history. French women feel comfortable without heels and makeup. In Russia, appear in this form - and not a single man will look at you.

K.D.M. A man leaves a woman no choice if he reacts this way. It all starts with respect. My man and my guy friends are the most ardent feminists. The beloved was raised by a woman who explained to him the equality of the sexes and taught him to respect women as well as himself. It seemed to me that girls in Russia like to be treated like princesses.

ELLE It's true!

K.D.M. You are hostage to two situations that are not easy to change. The idea is to be a feminist, but remain feminine (points to her Chanel clutch - it says “Feminist mais Feminine.” - ELLE note). We're not talking about hardcore - dressing like a boy, wearing short hair, hating men. Feminism is not about this, but about equality. In France, our mothers and grandmothers took to the streets so that we now have the right to vote and use contraception. And each of us now bears responsibility as a woman, consciously or unconsciously. We are used to taking to the streets if something doesn’t suit us, and even if it is sometimes annoying, this approach works.

ELLE What gives you self-confidence?

ELLE What does the Chanel brand mean to you? What do you appreciate most about him?

K.D.M. He is timeless, maneuvering through trends with grace. What comes into fashion, I won’t wear for a year or two, because I hate being like everyone else. Each season I find two or three pieces and adapt them to my style, and that's exactly what Chanel offers. I'm lazy, especially when it comes to styling. And Chanel offers tailoring and expensive materials. You put on the simplest jacket with jeans and you look chic. I leave only one strong element in the image - and Chanel items are ideal for this approach to clothing.

ELLE What five things would you take out of your house during a fire?

K.D.M. Definitely not clothes! My bag, and in it there is always a passport, phone, wallet. I'm not attached to things at all. My friends come to my house, they always take things away - I don't care. I would take with me only my independence - that is, my passport and money.

ELLE You once said that your passport is always with you - it gives you a sense of independence.

K.D.M. Yes, it's very strange! I do the same thing with my man (laughs). We have been together for almost 11 years, and I don’t want to get married so that I can escape tomorrow. We have a child, we will still see each other all our lives, but it seems to me that he has no confidence that he has completely conquered me, and every day he is afraid of losing me. Maybe we've been together for so long partly because of this.

ELLE And you still learn from each other?

K.D.M. Yes, a lot! Every day, as in “A Thousand and One Nights”, where Scheherazade tells a new story, so do we. We respect each other's personalities, I would never want to change anything about him. We constantly surprise each other, we always have fun together! There is a lot of trust and independence between us. If he calls and says he's going out to dinner with friends and I made his favorite dish, I don't care. Well, I’ll put it in the refrigerator, we’ll eat it tomorrow - what’s the difference? I will have time for myself: listen to music, lie in the bath, read a book. He knows that I'm enjoying my time, I'm not too worried about when he'll come back, and that's what makes him rush home. In addition, I am financially independent. I don't need his help and he knows it - and vice versa. The strength of our relationship lies precisely in the fact that we are together only for the sake of love and each other.

ELLE You just turned 40, how do you feel?

K.D.M. Right now I feel calm and confident as never before. The only thing that worries me is how my body is changing. I have never played sports, but now I have to. I found a trainer and go to the gym three times a week, although I hate it. This is hell for me! The only moment I like is when it's over and I feel relieved. I would never spend every day there! I hate fitness and never go on diets. Food is one of the greatest pleasures in life!

Today it seems that Caroline de Maigret has always been famous. So it was, but for a rather narrow circle of people passionate about fashion. However, real worldwide fame came to her after the release of the book “How to Feel Like a Parisian, Whoever You Are. Love, style and lifestyle." The reason for our meeting was a makeup collection made by Caroline specifically for the Lancome brand.

PARISIAN IS ME

CAROLINE DE MAIGRET AT LANCOME LABORATORYPhoto: THIBAULT DESPLATS FOR LANCOME

Morning. First arrondissement of Paris. Carolyn meets me in the “interview” room and greets me with a friendly hand. She is wearing a white shirt, wide black trousers and quite “masculine” shoes. It was this style that became her signature and made her a star of streetstyle blogs. Tall, unruly bangs, incredible smile - everything about her seems familiar to the smallest detail thanks to numerous gossip columns and reports.

“I am one hundred percent French,” Caroline says in a hoarse, enveloping voice. – My style fully reflects this. Loose blouses and all kinds of shirts, baggy trousers, voluminous coats, rough boots, and sometimes elegant dresses - this is what really suits me, what I feel comfortable in and remains myself, and not what trends dictate. In makeup, I try to adhere to the same principle: naturalness, naturalness, imperceptibility of effort and delicacy of colors. You know, here it is considered bad form to wear too much makeup, to show off your plastic surgery and too complicated hairstyle. Everyone will immediately decide that something is wrong with you. That’s why, when creating my first collection for Lancome, I chose what I love and what I really use every day.”

A private dinner was held in honor of Caroline De Maigret

The muse of the Lancome house, Caroline De Maigret, presented in Moscow her new book “How to be a Parisian, whoever you are. Love, style and bad habits." In honor of this, a gala dinner was held at the Metropol Hotel.

BASIC BEAUTY WARDROBE

“Since a real French woman means a minimum of makeup on the face and slightly tousled hair (keep in mind, this is a must!), I tried to put together the essentials in order to look good, but at the same time remain myself. My collection is like a basic wardrobe for every day: you can string whatever you want onto it. Each product can easily be used by any woman - blonde, brunette, brown-eyed, blue-eyed... Friends asked if I was afraid of being boring with such classic shades. So, I'm not afraid! Because they look not just bright, but expressive and at the same time quite sexy. They are more chic. When I was looking for my own style, I thought a lot about how to use cosmetics to remain myself, and not turn into another person. Lancome's autumn collection allows you to be careful with your individuality.

PALETTE FROM CAROLINE DE MAIGRET'S MAKEUP COLLECTION FOR LANCOME

There's a fun palette here that's reminiscent of a notebook. It’s convenient and elegant: you can safely correct your makeup “in public” and it won’t shock anyone. The palette contains not only shadows, but also pink cream blush, giving the face a pleasant freshness. I love them and sometimes apply them not only to my cheekbones, but also to my lips and even my eyelids. But my main pride is... a large mirror, which allows me not to writhe in agony while trying to apply eyelashes and eye shadow. It feels so good to be free! So consider the handy mirror as my personal contribution to the cause of feminism.

In addition, the collection includes eye and lip pencils, nail polishes, lipsticks, lip balm and, of course, mascara. I have a very unusual one - a deep burgundy color. I use black only in the evening, when going out, and during the day I prefer the burgundy shade. It softens dark eyes and avoids shadows on the face. In my opinion, this is a small revolution.”

BOOK BY CAROLINE DE MAIGRE "HOW TO FEEL LIKE A PARISIAN, WHOMEVER YOU ARE"

A FEW MORE SECRETS

“If I had to debunk one popular myth about French women, I would frankly tell the world: “Yes, we also diet. And we are also concerned about how to lose weight.” True, unlike others, we keep this problem to ourselves, and do not shout about it to the whole world. Why do we need to talk about this so much? This is of no interest to anyone. Movies - yes, books - yes, children - of course, but what you chew oats or drink juices is a personal and even intimate matter. We consider it bad form to discuss this with anyone other than your nutritionist. If a Parisian woman goes to a restaurant, then no matter what food system she adheres to, nothing and no one will stop her from paying tribute to good cuisine. She will not sit with a sour face and pick at her plate with a fork. Yes, the next day at home she will most likely have to abstain from something or even go hungry, but this will forever remain her little secret. That’s why everyone around is sure that “French women don’t get fat or lose weight,” but in fact, they just choose the right topics for conversation!”
